Hello from Basingstoke
recently bought a 1987-88 sj413.
Few little things, you may have heard this a million times but I have quite a loud whining noise coming from what sounds to me to be the gear box. I get this from when the clutch is in there is no noise then when engaged and accelerating its gets louder. Also the higher gear I go the more whinier it gets, any solutions ?
Plus my vacuum gauge on the dash when driving says poor. And the car struggles to get past 50. I have read a few sites and post and gather it's all the hoses to do with my carb etc. Is there anywhere that do a complete hose kit ? Or is it just find some hose and scissors and crack on ? Or is it something else that can cause this ?
Cheers for reading and I look forward to being part of the community

Hi Tom - I had similar on my last Sami - it was the transfer box, though the sound is a graunchy whine... a bit ropy. Worth changing the tbox oil anyway and that way you see what comes out - if it's thick sludgy and not a lot of it that's a bad sign, but get decent oil in and it can only help. It may help reduce possibilities before having to swap a gearbox. SJs have often been driven 4WD on tarmac in their past and this can cause Tbox damage.

Thanks mate, looked today and there is an oil leak from my t box to the drive shaft which is abit worrying. It looks pretty clean but I'll have to get that sorted Asap!
