Security!

Post by zook123 » Tue Dec 15, 2015 1:36 pm

Got a near standard Jimny, running the G13bb engine - same as the SJ413 but EFI rather than Carb'd

Need to look at getting more security as 4x4's tend to go walkies around Somerset.

Going to get a Disklok to deter, but wanted to fit something electrical to "switch off" when not in use - ie a kill switch inside

What's the best way to do this, I want to just kill "the starting" of the car, rather than all of the electrics, would you just "cut" the starter wire, extend with some strong cable and run inside the cabin?

A kill switch is a good idea mate but its not going to stop someone smashing your window and trying to wire it up.

The best security is something a thief can see so it stops them causing silly amounts of damage trying to pinch something that seems like its not secure.

Tbh It's not easy to get around the factory immobiliser, a kill switch isn't going to do anything that the immobiliser doesn't already do, so I'm not sure I really see the point :er: Plus you'll find Suzukis don't get nicked as much as land rovers or bigger jap 4x4s anyway because they aren't as valuable.

As said a visual deterrent is the best option.

Big dog on the drivers seat
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

Fair does, i'll just stick with the disklok for now!

Might look at wiring up a small flashing LED to sit on the dashboard too

We have established that it does not need a cut off but if it did my suggestion would be to the fuel pump.

When it comes to security all that you can do is deter the opportunists so keep it locked and maybe steering lock as you said.
