Headlights above my head...

Post by Wimbo » Thu Nov 19, 2015 7:24 am

The Grand Vitara has roof-rails. The Nissan X-trail has em too. In several cases they come with lights in it at front. To see everything in the dark, sort of extra beam so to say. Has Suzuki em too?
And if so: what are the costs?

Those might be illegal for use on the road - I've read of people who have failed their MOT for having a roof mounted light bar that comes on with main beams because (so I'm told, you'd need to look into it for yourself) it's considered unsafe to have lights that high on a vehicle in case they dazzle oncoming traffic.

They have to be on a separate switched circuit so that you can specifically switch them on when you're offroad.

Before trying to get something like that for your GV, you might want to make sure it's not going to blind someone and cause them to front-end you. Or a tree. And that it's legal.

Maybe in UK...
In the Netherlands it's allowed they burn when main beam is on. And main-beam on means no traffic from the opposite side. It has type improvement here. At the X trail that is.
But we are not too difficult here. I see Jeeps/Land-Rovers with 8 (!!) big torches on the roof and no one gets a ticket... :rockin:

Not legal in the UK. High level lights can only be fitted forward of the front axle (hence legal on trucks) unless they can only be used with the engine off.

But.... it still does not answer my question: do they exist?

Can't see anything like it on ebay.... personally I would go for an LED light bar :)
But bear in mind unless they are set back a bit, roof lights will reflect off your bonnet!

Best thing to do is ring a local Suzuki dealership and ask them. If they do them in other parts of the world, they probably won't do them in the UK, so asking a UK forum about them might not get you information that's useful to you where you are.
