SU Carb HIF 6 / HIF 44

Post by rooihond » Mon Jul 12, 2010 6:48 pm

Hi Guys !

What is the difference between a SU HIF 44 and HIF 6 ?

I recently picked up some "HIF 44" carbs off eBay, but the tag says AUD 521 L and AUD 521 R. As per Rover 3500 SD1

Kind regards,

D

Hi Dom !

Still doing great thanks. Like usual been lurking in the background.

I'm contemplating a SU conversion, as my Aisin carb is getting rickety, damn auto choke doesn't work properly any more.

I still adore the little Samurai !

hi matey, the hif 6 will probably be too big for an sj and i dont think you'll be able to get a spring and needle set up that will run with the correct air fuel ratio, however i might well be wrong so contact burlen fuel systems for some advice as you might be able to set it up to run on a suzuki as i've heard of them being run on turbo'd mini's.

the common su for 1.3 and 1.6 suzukis is the HIF44 which measures 44mm

Hey Derek,

I might have a spare Carb ,but it be for a 410.

I dont know if the 410 and 413 carbs are the same, something tells me that they are different.

Do you have a photo of your carb for us to see ?

Anyhow, glad to see you back here, dont go so long without some gossip.

410 carbs are side draught like an SU so wont fit a 413. i doubt they'll provide enough fuel even with an adapter either.

Shame really as they are so much better than the 413 carb!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies and offers, got it figured. HIF6 and HIF44 exactly the same. HIF6 non-metric old numbering.
HIF6 is 1 and 6 eighths of an inch or 1.75", which in metric terms is 44mm hence the newer HIF44 numbering.

Yes, World Cup was a bash !

I'm now looking for the air cleaner flange for the SU. Anyone got one lying around ?

Regards to all.

Derek
