New 84' Sj410 Not Starting
New 84' Sj410 Not Starting
Bought a non-runing 84' SJ410 & still haven't been able to get her going!
Cleaned the carb real good & can see fuel squirtin out fine.
New distributor cap
New plugs & wires
New starter
Compression testing all four cylinders at 150psi
For a while she was sputtering a bit but never actually ever started.
Now she wont do a thing but turn over real fast.
Where should I go from here?

Timing? Snapped cam belt? Is it sparking?

150 is a bit low but ok. Is the fuel stale?
If it ticks over...leave it
Re: New 84' Sj410 Not Starting
as Alex says, make sure the fuel is fresh.
Also
Change the condenser and points, they are cheap and if the condenser is breaking down it can cause issues.
When you fit the new points set the gap to 0.4-0.5mm

Belt looks ok, timing checks out alright too.
Fresh fuel being bypassed through
Inline spark tester shows spark on all four BUT maybe it aint strong enough?
I'm gunna change the ignition contact points asap along with the condensor.
Ether does absolutely NOTHING

If that doesn't work check that the timing isn't 180* out and it's trying to fire on the exhaust stroke.
it's an easy mistake to make and a very common one!

Ok, I bought a new contact point set for an 87 Samurai because SJ410's have extremely limited parts here..
My distributor appears to only house a pickup coil & ignitor - no contact point set like I was expecting.
The inside of the distributor was in good shape & I cleaned it up even better.
I may be severly overlooking this - but I have not been able to find any other contents in the distribuotor - just the signal rotor and governer weights located underneath the pickup coil. My shop manual also mentions no contact point set like the one I mistankenly purchased for a Samurai.
* Timing looks good - air gap is correct width - inline spark tester shows spark
