Jimny 1300 engine in SJ413

Post by Skywalker » Thu Jun 17, 2010 10:55 pm

Hi All, My Samurai has the usual smoking problem and uses up to a litre of multigrade per 1000 miles - as the clutch has started to go, I was thinking of a rebuild, however, I have just seen a 1300 Jimny in the scrappers with only 37 K on it - will it fit or are there too many complications to make it worth the effort?

The engine will bolt in fine, but you'll need all the electrical gubbins from the jimny that make the engine run. ECU, relays etc.

I've been considering doing the same long term.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Ed your not allowed! your 410 is a classic and too nice convert! ill buy it off you and you can do it to a later 410!

I'm not 100% sure but yes i think it should bolt up and as Ed has said you'll need the wiring loom and ecu to get it all fitted and running.

sounds like a good plan much more modern engine! more power better mpg. Don think it would beo hard to fit it, i would get the power steering etc with it, as for the wiring make sure you get all the wiring, clocks, and keys as it will have an immobiliser. you will also need an electric fuel pump. well worth the effort though i reckon.

Just a a little look into this and as i thought they both have the same bottom end so it will just bolt straight in. its just the wiring that will be the fun bit  I keep thinking about a 1.6 16v baleno engine for mine.

A baleno won't have a transfer box bolted to the back of it

Hahahahahaha!!!

I'll keep the old engine then :P

I could buy another one instead, and mod that. It's what everyone else is doing

Yeah I'm so jelous of your 410, Are you on the road yet? I'd love to see it in the flesh, And seriusly if you mod it you will just loose some of the character, I don't think you realise how hard it is to get hold of an un-molested example!
