Rear axle oil seal?

Post by Matt » Tue Apr 14, 2015 8:02 pm

The rear axle oil seal went on my 410 at the weekend so I've ordered a new seal along with a new wheel bearing, is it easy enough to do at home? Or do I need a press etc?

I've always just tapped the new bearings and locking collar on with a bit of tube that perfectly fits over the shaft and only makes contact with the centre of the bearing.

Easy enough at home. Presuming you have a slide hammer to get the shaft out.

I cut the old collar off carefully with a grinder and used that to tap the new bearing and collar on.

Just a quick one... I have part of a rear brake drum (the center bit) that I was going to use for a rear disc conversion.
When bolted onto the halfshaft it makes removing the shaft really easy with a hammer using the clock face method!

They are all the same. Just order from any motor factors. I've had a few kits from Euro Car Parts and they've always been SKF.
