FILL TO THE TOP sj413
At the risk of being a pain ...has anyone any thoughts on this .....as my sender is playing up
in the tank i thought i might fill the tank right to the top just up to the filler cap so the variable resistor on the sender is immersed in the fuel ...i have added quite a bit of Redex hoping the cleaning properties of Redex will clean the sensor ... so reluctant to remove the tank at present freezing in my garage...
thanks for any thoughts on this

Won't work in my opinion. My fuel gauge only works on the lower half and i regularly fill it.
Remove the tank, clean the sender or fit a new one!

Honestly you just need to remove the tank and sort out the sender unit....it's easy plus it's not that cold anymore

You literally only have 3 options dude,
Drop the tank - easiest, do this one.
Lift the entire body off - do able, wouldn't advise.
Saw a gaping hole in the floor - do able, wouldn't advise.
Then remove the sender.

Mine seems to do the same, basically it likes to tell me that my tank is about half full or it likes to tell me it's empty.
I just live with it, but eventually I'll probably replace the sender.

Have a look at our guide for repairing a fuel sender, it may be more economical to fix yours or get a second hand replacement.
I think the last time I looked into replacing mine (was in a different fuel tank) they were about £125

Although looking into it, it appears you can get one for a japanese (I think) fuel tank quite cheap from india

They are usually really easy to fix, i sorted mine a few years ago and it's been fine ever since, so worth trying before spending any money.
only takes around an hour, if that to drop the tank, fix it and re-fit.

Buy a disco, lift the boot carpet and the floor will have rotted all the way round and so lift and there is the tank simples

Well been to petrol station filled to the top of filler neck after adding a bottle of Redex
fuel gauge now shows a little bit over the full mark ....remains to be seen if the sender will benefit
from being immersed in the Redex/petrol mixture....hope so otherwise it is as others have said its a
tank out job
