Heater upgrade

The heater in my little LJ is like an asthmatic mouse coughing on the windscreen. Would an SJ or Vitara heater go in?

There's not much room for a larger heater really.

I would give the heater a strip down and make sure it's all ok, shouldn't be hard to get it working properly again.

I'll give that a go...not hard to get access to it! Might help if I had some door seals...have ordered some.

Not the real ones! The lip on the door rim is 8mm so had to order a universal roll of it in that size. Way way cheaper than the real McCoy

The heater is not hard to get out..

- Undo the hose clamps from inside the engine bay (and get some coolant on the floor)
- Unscrew the two screws infront of the heater on the tunnel
- Unplug the motor and sensor (on the right of the heater)

And pull.

As for an upgrade... I have not found a solution but maybe there is one. The matrix is very small and there is no room for a larger one. I think extra socks and gloves are the answer.

Be careful with the temperature controller. It is only a "tap" and if you abuse it or the car is very old it can start to leak. If you see any LJ80s in a scrap yard buy the heater and stick it on the shelf for future reference.

You used to be able to buy custom heaters for mini's that fit under the metal dash shelf and blasted hot air at the footwell. Maybe it'd be possible to make a secondary heater core housing to go somewhere under the dash? So you'd have 2 heater cores instead of 1? The extra heat in the car might help the first one clear the windscreen?

These things are very popular in Sweden. I will probably get one (or more). I am a little unsure if the alternator can will play the game. Time will tell. At least they are cheap to buy.

that is a 230v heater, so will require a inverter to run it in a vehicle, and it will need a decent one too if you run it continuously for long periods of time
