New SJ413 owner - Cumbria

Post by Toneee » Mon Aug 07, 2017 7:42 pm

Hi All,

Thought I'd introduce myself after acquiring my new (to me) SJ413 last week, I've already found a wealth of information on the forum which will hopefully help me on my way to getting her tidied up and back out on the road!

Image

After getting her home I've begun tearing her apart to see how deep the rot has set in, having taken off all the arch and sill covers, it's obvious that both wings are shot and the rear quarters gone, The boot floor also has some dubious looking fibreglass repairs that will need attention, aside from that the chassis all looks good, sills aren't too far gone and she goes and stops well, gearbox seems really good so all in all not a bad "little" project!

My plan is to repair structurally and try to keep her relatively standard, as she will mostly be used on the road with perhaps a little tame green laning thrown in. New wings and rear quarters are on there way along with a more solid second hand rear bumper, new soft top arrived today (more on that in a minute). She will be getting roller painted in Rustoleum (a throwback to my VW T25 camper days) which from my past experience gives a pretty good finish for little money whilst offering some rust protection.

Now, as you might be able to see from the picture someone has "mastic'd" on a pretty horrible looking hard top sometime in the past, which I will be replacing with the monsoon soft top, problem is, this Suzuki didn't come with the mechanism for the soft top, any ideas where I might be able to source one?

Once I get underway with the project I'll keep you all up to date with a build log.

Cheers,
Tony

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Robbie, having looked a bit closer I think it's the support that I've highlighted red in the pic below that I'm missing.

Yeah, I didn't have one in mine when I got it. Should be easy enough to get one
