My latest common sense failure

Post by Jordi » Tue Jul 19, 2016 8:28 am

Been thinking a little while about this. I do a few longish trips a year with the Zuk and normally borrow a trailer and big 4x4 to tow it or use a flatbed sprinter. Also have my other projects that i need to shuffle round at times.

Borrowing isn't an issue and i can 99% guarantee they will be available but there will be times for what ever reason they aren't.

Options were drive the Zuk and pile all my camping gear and tools in it (they do fit) or a small camping trailer. Whilst i am generally sensible with it there is always the possibility of breaking it and being stranded.

Buy my own trailer but my car isn't really man enough to tow 2t

So we went with the third option.

A 1994 Mercedes 308d beaver tail transporter, with winch. It's nothing too flash and needs some tidying up, little bit of body work but the repair panels are available. Interior is tatty but just wants seats and a good clean.

It has 12months MOT, there were a couple of advisories but nothing major (brake pipes and track rods), starts and runs nice enough. No smoking or bad rattles.

I did a bit of research through it's MOT history and priced up basic maintenance parts (filters, pads, shoes etc...) and nothing looked overly expensive to maintain it.

Plans are just to tidy it up, body work and paint, some ebay special seats and some outside lockers for storage.

I'll sort it. Some more pressing issues than paint and stickers to sort first.

Full service and inspection is the main one. More for piece of mind than anything else.

Really looking forward to getting it on the road, gonna be my new daily.
