Exactly Anton!

It's throwing bad legislation at existing legislation. People seem to forget that what is happening is ALREADY illegal. Making it illegal for responsible users too will have no impact on those idiots that choose to ignore the existing laws.

It's like saying "there are too many post office robberies going on, lets not let ANYONE in a post office".

To be honest, I am 100% opposed to irresponsible off roading but if all the byways get shut down then there is a strong argument for just driving where you like until you get caught and they take your truck. All vehicles modified for off road use like ours will become pretty much valueless over night so you might as well keep off roading until they seize it from you.

I often have my GoPro on my truck but unfortunately have failed to capture the couple of occasions where I've seen people going off piste. Fortunately, most of the people that do go off piste are actually pretty retarded and often end up putting videos or pictures of themselves doing so on YouTube/Facebook, thus doing the hard work for you. It actually genuinely blows my mind at how stupid a lot of people are.

More often than not they are just trying to win votes from curtain twitchers, nimbus and parish council types, rather than actually effect a positive outcome. Who cares if they stop the bad 4x4 drivers, so long as at election time they are perceived to have done something about it? Clair Perry is one of the worst for this, a driving force behind the communist china style UK firewall (talking of China, believe it or not I'm typing this message about a mile down the road from Tianemon square and looking forward to seeing the Great Wall tomorrow!). Give it some years of piling laws on laws, terrorist scaremongering and things will be like China, detention without trial, can't assemble in groups of more than 10 people without a permit, book banning etc.

What's the deal with the plain then, can anyone go across it?

Yeah, I am pretty dissatisfied with Claire Perry. I've made appointments to see her a couple of times and she is IMPOSSIBLE to actually pin down on anything. All she does is quip the party line in the vaguest, most non-committal way possible. Exactly as you say, she only seems to be interested in perpetuating her time in office by saying anything to win the votes of the "window twitchers"

I was particularly annoyed that she was in favour of default internet censorship, then fracking, and now she seems to be leaning towards the views of GLEAM etc.

Not sure what you mean by "what's the deal with the Plain"?

It's an area with quite a lot of byways. You can travel any of the byways in the same was as you can wherever they exist in England. There just happen to be quite a nice network of them, worth a visit if you've never been down this way.

Enjoy Tiananmen square!

OK that's interesting, answered my (vague) question. When I was in the army at larkhill they told us we'd be charged for taking private vehicles on the plain. Typical army bullshit. The idea always stayed with me though, lived in Devizes as a civvy for 2 years (for my sins) and never felt like it was legal heading out across the plain.
I always get the same vague party line non responses from my local MP, agememnon whitless-safeseat-nospine the earl of duchy, or whatever his name is. These people are supposed to stick up for us, not be mouthpieces for the honourable leader.

I've about had my fill with Beijing, many people around here seem to see a lone traveller as a cashpoint to be scammed, ripped off or robbed! Nice place! Even the great wall was just thousands of elbowing tourists gobbing off the top of a 30 year old reproduction.

LOL, sounds wonderful...

I live just outside Devizes, and the byways that go across the plain are treated the same as any other byway so you're perfectly entitled to drive them. Some of them are quite rough but some of them can be driven in any ordinary road car.

If you just start randomly driving around the Plain then the land wardens are going to be on to you VERY quickly in most cases.

I was recently out with a friend and the land warden came up to check what we were up to. He'd just nicked two plonkas who had come down from Bristol thinking that you could just casually drive wherever you like on Salisbury Plain!

If you ever come back this way, plenty of us go out on the Plain quite regularly if you want to go.

Hi all,

I've been in dialogue with a local GLASS rep who is collating correspondence between people and their MPs.

This is helping him build a picture of which MPs are receptive to the maintenance of vehicle rights of way, and which are not.

For those of you that have taken the time to contact your MP, and would like to share that information with GLASS, perhaps you'd like to DM it to me and I'll pass it all on.

If possible just copy and paste (or even scan/take a picture of) whatever you've sent to your MP, and whatever they've sent you back.

If you get a moment to find the time to do that it would be great.

Thanks

I know I have one of yours somewhere but it's buried in amongst 2,000 images of shitting cats and haripeedos which is making it hard to locate

If you could forward it again that would be great.
