Re: tappets... oil and some noise.

Russ If the fault is the cam it will not require a full engine strip down - just the cylinder head but as the head gasket is leaking the head will have to be removed to replace the gasket. It will also be necessary to have the cylinder head skimmed by a machine shop as it may be slightly warped. The...

Re: tappets... oil and some noise.

Russ Very likely to be excessive wear on one or more of the camshaft lobes plus similar wear on the rocker pads where the camshaft makes contact to open the valve. I recently had the engine on my sj410 rebored, crank ground, new oil pump, engine chemically cleaned, four new exhaust valves and valve ...

Try this site http://www.enginestuff.co.uk - they seem to have what you need but unfortunately you don't seem to be able to telephone them and I once emailed a question to them and never got a reply. You may have better luck.

Re: Fitting new distributer

Cheers for the replys guys. Is there a easy way of finding TDC? There are 3 marks on the plastic cam cover "20, 10, and 0" but im not sure which one (if any) would be TDC. I know little or nothing about engine swaps although I often read about them here but to answer your question: "...

Re: temp and fuel gauge dont work :S

Ben Glad to see that both gauges are now working again but this does reinforce my "diagnoses" that as they failed together and are now restored together, that they obviously share something in common - this can only be an earth point or a connector plug (corrosion being the No.1 suspect). ...

Re: temp and fuel gauge dont work :S

You are going to have to get hold of a wiring diagram and trace the wiring by their colour codings - you should be able to see if the earth for these gauges is common to both or indeed a connector block. Alternatively you may have to remove the gauges and trace the wiring backwards to achieve the sa...

Re: temp and fuel gauge dont work :S

Ben

both gauges probably share a common earth or possibly a common connector plug which may be causing the problem - you haven't stated what the vehicle is. If it's a SJ410 I can look on my wiring diagram but otherwise that's as far as I can go.

Re: Engine Power Lacking

Binding brakes including handbrake?

Weak or over rich fuel mixture?

Choke flap partially closed with hot engine?

Poor over all engine condition (cylinder pressures)?

Spark plug condition?

Re: handbrake

Hi gsommo I've got a Sj 410 which has a similar transmission type drum brake - probably not identical though. Mark the prop shaft to ensure that you mate it back in the same place. Ensure that the handbrake is on (initially) and that the vehicle is properly chocked and VERY stable if you jack it up ...

Re: wet feet

Check the two rubber water drainage thingy's which you can see mounted on the bulkhead (at the rear of the engine) - mine leaked so I removed them and refitted with gasket compound to provide a water tight seal.
